Martha has been asking who, what, where, when and why questions since high school journalism classes. A Midwest native—and graduate of the University of Illinois journalism program—she developed a keen eye for detail as a newspaper reporter, publicist and freelance writer specializing in food, health and business.

From 2004 until early 2009 Martha was the in-house copyeditor/proofreader at Metropolitan Group, a Portland-based public relations and social marketing agency with offices in four cities. She applied her skills to the full range of documents produced for clients, from press releases and brochures to communication toolkits and website content. She also was responsible for reviewing all copy for materials produced by the in-house design department as well as new business development proposals.

For many years Martha has worked as an independent copyeditor and proofreader for Northwest businesses, colleges and nonprofit organizations—on books, catalogs, brochures, magazines, newsletters and more. She has also written numerous articles for local and national newspapers and magazines and crafted press releases and promotional materials for organizations and PR agencies.

Martha is a member of the Northwest Independent Editors Guild. She has a passion for issues related to environmental and social sustainability as well as health and wellness. Her latest volunteer venture is writing for Life by Design NW, a nonprofit focused on opportunities for people 50 and over, including life planning, lifelong learning and civic engagement.
